CPMS 2018 revision:
Survey on draft 2

Survey on Draft 2 of the 2018 CPMS revision

Thank you for participating in the 2018 CPMS revision survey. The survey results will be used to inform the CPMS revision process. Your input is crucial for ensuring that the revision is based in practice, evidence, and practitioner experience.  You do not need to have read the draft standards to take part in the survey.

The 2nd edition of the CPMS will update the current 2012 version with the latest evidence and best practices.  The revision aims to increase its applicability to all humanitarian contexts and increase its relevance to national agencies, community based groups, and other first responders.

While completing the survey please bear in mind that the survey questions are based on the draft standards. The standards are to be further edited.

A new version of the CPMS will be published in mid-2019 following comprehensive research and consultation in which PHAP is partnering with the CPMS Working Group of the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action to help strengthen the revision process.

You can access the texts of the second draft here.

The online consultation includes two components:
  1. A survey on specific issues that have come up during the revision process.
  2. Review of the full text of the second draft of the 2018 revision through a feedback form (available here).
If you have any questions about the online consultations, please contact us at

Survey structure

The survey starts with a few initial questions about your professional profile. This is followed by questions on each of the following sections, for which the revision groups identified specific information needs.
  • Definitions of child protection
  • Strategy Pillar Introduction
  • Standard 2 Human resources
  • Standard 3 Communication, advocacy and media
  • Standard 4 Programme cycle management
  • Standard 6 Child protection monitoring
  • Standard 7 Dangers and injuries
  • Standard 9 Sexual and gender based violence (SGBV)
  • Standard 12 Child labour
  • Standard 16 Family strengthening
  • Standard 17 Community level approaches
  • Standard 18 Safer societies
You may choose to respond only to the sections that are the most relevant for your work. At the end of the survey, you will also have an opportunity to submit general comments about the other CPMS standards, for which there are not specific information needs. Depending on which sections you choose to respond to, the survey will take between 15-45 minutes.

All your responses will be anonymous and will not be attributed to you without your explicit consent. You will be asked at the end of the survey if you want to provide your contact details for follow up and attribution.

The survey was designed in English and is available in Arabic, French, and Spanish. You can select your language on top of the screen.
